WHAT IS CMMC?

The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) is the Department of Defense (DoD) program built to protect the Defense Industrial Base (DIB) from cyber-attacks.

CMMC (formerly NIST 800-171 compliance) was designed to protect America by enhancing protection of Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and federal contract information (FCI) shared within the DIB.

The new CMMC framework establishes cybersecurity standards and best practices, intended to:

  • Safeguard sensitive information to enable and protect the warfighter
  • Increase DIB cybersecurity measures to meet evolving threats
  • Minimize barriers to compliance with DoD requirements
  • Instill a collaborative culture of cybersecurity and cyber-resilience
  • Enhance public trust through professional and ethical standards

We can assist in your CMMC compliance journey regardless of your certification status:

  • Are you a new Organization Seeking Certification (OSC)?
  • Need to maintain your CMMC certification?
  • You implemented CMMC but would like a second set of eyes?
  • Remediation needed for self-assessment results?
  • Increasing your certification level?

Are You Subject To CMMC?

All DoD contractors (whether primary or secondary companies) that conduct business with the Department of Defense must obtain a CMMC certification, cybersecurity standards described in NIST 800-171. Many contracts with DoD customers contain clauses requiring CMMC certification as a condition for doing business with them. Generally speaking, the standards describe network security, along with documentation and policies which support that security.

This means if you are a defense organization that works with the DoD — engaged in a DoD contract or subcontract that requires the storage, transmission, or processing of Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) or Federal Contract Information (FCI) — you will require CMMC certification at one of the three levels of the maturity model.
